Symbol Line - Overview
Buy nowSymbol Line places symbols with two defined points along a drawn path, creating a linked chain of repeated symbols.
It is especially useful for temporary event fencing, crowd barriers, posts, garden layouts, and any symbol that needs to follow a line accurately.
Why not use Duplicate Along Path? That command places one point of the symbol on the path. Symbol Line places two user-defined points of the symbol on the path, creating a connected run of symbols such as temporary event fences.
Symbol Line can place three symbol definitions along the line:
Symbol 1 is the main symbol placed along the line.
Symbol 2 can alternate with Symbol 1 based on count or interval.
Symbol 3 can be placed at Symbol 1 or Symbol 2 insertion points, based on count or interval, and can be spread evenly between Symbol 2 instances.
Symbols in a Symbol Line can flip orientation.
Symbol distances can come from manual distance and angle values in the Object Info palette, or from loci inside the symbol definition with the symbol_line_dist record attached.
The tool works with any symbol definition and with either metric or imperial units.

How do you receive and install the tool?
Choose the installation option that applies to you.
Before you purchase the tool:
- Find the last 6 digits of your Vectorworks serial number. You can check this on the Vectorworks Customer Portal: https://customers.vectorworks.net/licenses
- Copy the last 6 digits of your license to your clipboard.
- Check which Vectorworks year version you use (for example 2024, 2025, 2026, or 2027).
During checkout:
- Enter the last 6 digits of your Vectorworks serial number (copy/paste recommended).
- Select the Vectorworks year version you want to use the tool with.
- Enter your email address.
Product already installed through Vectorworks Partner Products:
- You do not need to install Symbol Line again. Save the attached .vxkey license file from your purchase email.
- Start Vectorworks and run Symbol Line.
- When the license dialog reports that no license file was found, click Activate License.
- Select the corresponding .vxkey file from your email. Vectorworks will install the license file for you.
Product not yet installed:
- Download STB-VW Tools.vwlibrary using the link in your purchase email.
- Start Vectorworks and go to Tools → Plug-in Manager.
- Open Third-party Plug-ins, click Install, and select the downloaded .vwlibrary file.
- Restart Vectorworks. The package contains both Symbol Line and your license.
FAQ
01Which Vectorworks versions are supported?
Symbol Line has been tested with Vectorworks 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027.
02Is it a subscription?
No.
Symbol Line is a one-time purchase.
When you buy the tool for a specific Vectorworks year version, you can continue using it with that version indefinitely.
03What if I buy the tool just before a new Vectorworks version is released?
There is a 12-month grace period.
If a new Vectorworks version is released within 12 months of your purchase, you may use the tool with that new version as well.
After the 12-month period, you must upgrade the tool to match the new Vectorworks release year. If you have a 2026 license that is still within its grace period, go to the Download Request page. Request the specific 2027 installation package using the same seat ID you used for the 2026 license. We will email the package to you.
04Does it work on Mac and Windows?
Yes.
Symbol Line works on both macOS and Windows.
